What it costs, and how to pay less
Tuition of €109,860 is INSEAD's published fee for the August 2026 and January 2027 intakes, inclusive of all applicable taxes, as in its financing page.

What tuition covers
Tuition includes printed course materials, library, on-campus IT services, student council fees, a €150 alumni association subscription, gym access, business cards, printing and health insurance, as in INSEAD's financing page.
INSEAD's pages differ: its FAQ list also names language tuition and testing and does not mention the alumni subscription. This page uses the financing page.
The optional Business Foundations Programme costs extra: €2,040 (August intake, in person) or €1,530 (January intake, online).

Campuses and exchange
| Topic | What INSEAD says |
|---|
| Starting campus | You start on the France (Fontainebleau) or Singapore campus, or choose "Both campuses" if you have no preference. Abu Dhabi (Al Khatem Tower, Al Maryah Island) is the Middle East campus and is not a starting campus. |
| Structure | The programme has five periods of eight weeks; to graduate you complete 14 core courses, 10.5 electives and a capstone, with 75+ electives in 10 academic areas. January-intake students get a two-month summer break during which they can pursue an internship; August starters complete the programme in ten consecutive months, as in INSEAD's FAQ. |
| Exchange | Partners listed on INSEAD's curriculum page are Wharton (Philadelphia), Kellogg (Chicago) and CEIBS (Shanghai, January intake). Exchange starts from Period 3 and goes through bidding. INSEAD says it ensures the ability to exchange to another INSEAD campus at least once but does not guarantee which period; places at Wharton, Kellogg and CEIBS depend on bidding. Exchange is not mandatory. |

06 · Process
From application to decision
Apply
Submit the online application, upload your documents and record the Kira Talent video and written assessment.
INSEAD's admissions page sends the Kira link by email after you submit. You complete it within 48 hours of the application deadline.
Pre-selectionAbout one month after the round closes
An Admissions Officer decides who goes forward to interviews.
INSEAD's FAQ gives a different timing, so check the dates in the rounds table.
Interviews
If you are pre-selected, you have interviews with two INSEAD alumni, typically in your country of residence.
INSEAD does not state the interview length or whether it is in person or online.
Committee review
The Admissions Committee reviews your file, including the alumni feedback.
Final decision
INSEAD sends the final decision by email. The full process takes up to 10 weeks from the date of submission.
INSEAD does not describe a waitlist process or a separate acceptance deadline. The first instalment of €12,000 is due about 4 weeks after the offer. INSEAD gives no individual feedback on rejected applications, and unsuccessful applicants can reapply for a later intake with a new application.
07 · What you need
What goes into the application
1. Eligibility
INSEAD sets no age limit. The current class averages 6 years of work experience, with a range of 2 to 10 years, and INSEAD says applicants with less experience who show exceptional maturity and outstanding leadership will also be considered. Its overview describes the programme as ideal for 3 to 8 years. Applicants with more than 10 years are pointed to the Executive MBA. You upload your transcripts and diploma with the application. INSEAD's FAQ says an undergraduate degree is not compulsory: candidates without one who have an excellent career record and GMAT score can also apply. Its FAQ says there is no minimum GPA requirement, as the GPA system is not a globally used grading methodology; it primarily looks at the courses taken, the grades received in each course and overall academic performance.
2. Test score
A GMAT or GRE score is mandatory and cannot be waived. You can take it any time up to your chosen deadline, and scores are sent directly to INSEAD (GMAT code DL3-S8-89, MBA Full Time; GRE code 0970). INSEAD says scores are valid five years prior to the application deadline. Online GMAT and GRE are accepted, and the GMAT Superscore is accepted. If you take a test more than once, INSEAD reviews all attempts and weights the highest most. INSEAD has no preference between GMAT and GRE and no minimum GMAT.
3. English and a second language
INSEAD's language policy asks for "Fluent" English (level C1). You can show it with a university degree taught in English (an exchange programme or an English major does not qualify), or one academic exchange year fully in English, or a test less than two years old at the application deadline: TOEFL iBT with a recommended minimum of 105 (5.5 on the new format from January 2026), PTE Academic 72 or IELTS Academic 7.5. INSEAD's admissions page and FAQ also accept the Duolingo English Test (DET) but give no recommended score for it, and its language policy does not list it yet. INSEAD's FAQ says living or working in English is not accepted as proof.
You also need at least "Practical" (B1) in a second language. If English is not your native language, your native language plus your English proof satisfies both. If English is your native language, you must validate a second language at B1, ideally before the programme starts.
4. Essays
These are the five prompts on INSEAD's live admissions page, which serves the August 2027 application. INSEAD does not publish separate January 2028 wording.
INSEAD says the job description questions are not academic essays or business reports: write in your own voice, directly in the form or pasted into the text boxes.
Essay 1: Job description 1 (500 words)
Provide a summary of your career since graduating from university, explaining the rationale behind your key decisions and career progression. Include a description of your current (or most recent) role, covering the scope of your work, major responsibilities, employees under your supervision, budget size, clients/products, and any notable results achieved.
Essay 2: Job description 2 (300 words)
Describe your short and long-term career aspirations, including your target geography, industry, and function. How do you plan to bridge the gap between your current position and these goals, and how will INSEAD help you achieve them?
Essay 3: Motivation essay 1 (500 words)
Give a candid description of yourself as a person and a leader, emphasising the strengths and weaknesses you recognise in yourself. Explain how you are actively working on your development, sharing key experiences that have shaped you, providing specific examples where relevant.
Essay 4: Motivation essay 2 (400 words)
Describe a highly stressful situation you faced and how you managed it. What did this experience teach you about yourself and your interactions with others?
Essay 5: Motivation essay 3 (not marked optional, 300 words)
Is there anything else that was not covered in your application that you would like to share with the Admissions Committee?
The live page does not mark the last essay as optional. INSEAD's separate Admission Updates page covers the January 2026 intake only and describes a different set of essays, so this page follows the current admissions page.
5. Two recommendations
Two recommendations are required, submitted by the application deadline. INSEAD strongly recommends professional references (a current or former manager, client or colleague). Academic references are accepted but may be less effective at showing leadership and management potential. You can upload an optional third under supporting documents. INSEAD does not publish the recommender's questions or form on its public admissions page.
6. Video and written assessment
After you submit your application you get an email from Kira Talent with a unique link. You must complete the assessment within 48 hours of the application deadline. It has four video questions, each with 45 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to respond, and a final written question with 5 minutes. The whole assessment takes about 15 to 20 minutes. INSEAD does not publish the question content.
7. CV, transcripts and other documents
Your CV can be in a free format or in the INSEAD official CV Book template. You upload scanned copies of your transcripts and diploma with the application, and official documents if you are admitted. Supporting documents such as awards are optional. You also choose a campus (France, Singapore or both campuses); INSEAD says changing campus after assignment is rarely possible. INSEAD may run background checks.
08 · What INSEAD wants
How INSEAD reads your file
INSEAD's admissions page lists four things it looks for. INSEAD publishes no weights for them.
| INSEAD looks at | In plain words |
|---|
| Ability to contribute | Perspectives and experiences that would enrich the class. |
| Academic capacity | Strong analytical skills and a proven ability to succeed in an intense programme. |
| International motivation | Curiosity and openness to diverse cultures and perspectives. |
| Leadership potential | Evidence of initiative, responsibility and the ability to inspire others. |
INSEAD says the Admissions Committee review includes the alumni feedback from your interviews.
See how your file reads against these criteria before you spend weeks on the essays.
Check my chances09 · Interview questions
What INSEAD interviewers typically ask
Five questions that show the pattern, based on candidates' own accounts of their INSEAD alumni interviews. The tag says how likely that type of question is: high means it comes up in close to half of candidate accounts or more, medium in roughly a quarter to just under half, and low in fewer than a quarter. Nobody gets a fixed list, and many questions are follow-ups to your own answers.
| Topic | Chance | How it is usually asked |
|---|
| Why INSEAD specifically | HIGH | “Why INSEAD and not another school or a US MBA?” |
| Your short- and long-term goals, with follow-ups | HIGH | “What are your short- and long-term goals, and how will you get there?” |
| Working across cultures and a global environment | HIGH | “Tell me about a time you worked with people from a very different background or culture.” |
| Questions on your application, essays and resume | MEDIUM | “You wrote that you led this initiative. What exactly did you do?” |
| Pitching or defending your goal | LOW | “Pitch your long-term goal to me as if I were an investor.” |
Why an MBA and why now, your career moves and leadership or conflict stories also come up in close to half of candidate accounts or more. Behavioural stories (a failure, a conflict, asking for help) are common in recent accounts.
These accounts do not yet cover the current August 2027 cycle.
10 · Interview experience
What the interview is actually like
What INSEAD says
| Topic | What to expect |
|---|
| Who interviews | Two INSEAD alumni, after pre-selection, typically in your country of residence. INSEAD's FAQ says that in most cases there are two separate interviews. |
| Length and mode | INSEAD does not state how long the interviews are or whether they are in person or online. |
| Video and written assessment | A separate step before the interviews. Four video questions and one written question, about 15 to 20 minutes in all. INSEAD does not publish the questions. |
What candidates report
| Topic | What to expect |
|---|
| Duration | Candidates describe about an hour each, with reported lengths from about 40 to 90 minutes. In several accounts a large part of the time went to the candidate's own questions about the alumnus's INSEAD and career experience. |
| Mode | Both happen and the candidate often chooses. Video calls are described in a clear majority of recent accounts, and in-person meetings are in a cafe, office or meeting room in the candidate's city. You usually email the alumnus yourself to fix a time. |
| How it runs | Candidates describe it as loosely structured: an opener, then why an MBA, why now and why INSEAD, then goals, a few behavioural questions, then your questions. Some alumni have read your resume and application closely and some have only a short form. |
| Attitude | Candidates describe it as mostly warm and conversational. A smaller group describe a stern or pressure-test interview, and the two interviews can differ a lot. Candidates say the tone does not predict the result. |
Candidates' accounts are a guide to the pattern, not a promise.
11 · FAQs
Questions students ask about INSEAD MBA
Is there a minimum GMAT or GRE score for the INSEAD MBA?
INSEAD's FAQ says it has no minimum required GMAT score, and a GMAT or GRE score is mandatory and cannot be waived. INSEAD publishes no class average or median score. It gives recommended scores as guidance: on the GMAT Focus Edition, 60th percentile Verbal (80), 66th percentile Quantitative (80) and Data Insights (77), and on the GRE 80% or above in Verbal and Quantitative.
How much work experience do I need?
The current class averages 6 years, with a range of 2 to 10 years, and INSEAD says applicants with less experience who show exceptional maturity and outstanding leadership will also be considered. Its overview describes the programme as ideal for 3 to 8 years. There is no age limit. INSEAD points applicants with more than 10 years to its Executive MBA programmes.
What essays does INSEAD ask for?
Five prompts: two job description questions (500 and 300 words) and three motivation essays (500, 400 and 300 words). The last one asks if there is anything else you would like to share, and the live page does not mark it optional. You also complete a Kira Talent video and written assessment.
Who interviews me, and how many interviews are there?
If you are pre-selected, you have interviews with two INSEAD alumni, typically in your country of residence. INSEAD's FAQ says that in most cases there are two separate interviews. INSEAD does not state the length or whether they are in person or online.
Which round should I apply in?
The August 2027 intake is open: Round 1 closed on 15th Sep 2026 and Round 2 closes on 3rd Nov 2026 (midnight French time). Rounds 3 and 4 close on 19th Jan 2027 and 9th Mar 2027. The January 2027 intake is closed, and INSEAD has published no January 2028 round dates yet.

What English level does INSEAD require?
Fluent English, level C1. You can show it with a degree taught in English, an academic exchange year fully in English, or a test less than two years old: TOEFL iBT with a recommended minimum of 105, PTE Academic 72, IELTS Academic 7.5, or the Duolingo English Test (DET), for which INSEAD gives no recommended score. INSEAD also requires at least B1 in a second language.
Can I defer or reapply?
INSEAD says no to deferral in the large majority of cases, so apply for the intake you intend to join; exceptional circumstances can be considered on a written request. Unsuccessful applicants can reapply for a later intake with a new application. INSEAD gives no individual feedback on rejected applications.
What do INSEAD graduates earn?
For the Class of 2025, INSEAD reports an annual median salary of €100,000 and an annual mean salary of €102,200, from 929 graduates of whom 98% responded. Bonuses are shown separately, and INSEAD does not say whether salary is base only.
