06 · Process

From application to decision

  1. Apply

Submit the online application with the non-refundable application fee. IIMB considers only complete applications that meet its minimum criteria.

Your statement of purpose, two online reference letters, test score and documents all go in with the application. The application cannot be submitted until the reference section is complete.

  2. Shortlist announcementBy email

IIMB calls only shortlisted candidates for an interview, by email.

IIMB does not publish a shortlist date, only the interview dates for each round.

  3. Interview

Shortlisted candidates are interviewed in Bangalore, New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. IIMB's composite score also includes a writing ability test.

Online interviews are arranged for applicants outside India, and IIMB may move a round online if something disrupts it. IIMB does not publish the interview length, panel size or the format of the writing test.

  4. Decision

After the interview each applicant gets a composite score, and offers go by that score as seats allow. Decisions are offers and a waitlist, and IIMB sends offers by email.

IIMB can apply a minimum cut-off on the composite score or any single factor. It does not publish waitlist rules.

07 · What you need

What goes into the application

1. Eligibility

A bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% or an equivalent CGPA (45% for SC, ST and PwD candidates). CA, ICWA and CS after Class XII are also eligible on the same percentage. At least 5 years of work experience after your bachelor's degree, counted as of 31st Mar 2027, and IIMB prefers less than 12 years. IIMB lists no age limit.

2. Test score

A valid GMAT or GRE score is required, taken within 5 years of the date you submit the application in your round. Submit the official scorecard or test-taker copy with the application and also send the score to IIMB directly (GMAT code Q9H-KK-84, GRE code 1675). 3. Statement of purpose

A statement of purpose "indicating your achievements and future goals" is a required document.

IIMB does not publish a prompt or word limit for the statement of purpose.

4. Two online reference letters

Two reference letters are mandatory, and one referee should preferably be your current employer or someone who can judge your work. You enter your referees' email and contact details in the application. They get an email with a link and a passcode and submit directly online by the last date. Letters cannot be emailed or sent separately, and there are no separate extensions.

5. Documents

SSC, HSC and bachelor's transcripts, your degree certificate, your GMAT or GRE scorecard, work-experience letters or your first and last payslips, and category or PwD certificates if they apply.

08 · What IIMB wants

How IIMB reads your file

IIMB builds a composite score from multiple factors, including these five. Here is what each means for your application.

IIMB looks atIn plain words
Academic track recordYour school, bachelor's and any later results.
GMAT or GRE scoreYour valid test score. IIMB says GMAT scores are judged relative to the applicant pool and publishes no minimum.
Quality of work experienceWhat you did, how much responsibility you held, and what it achieved.
Writing ability testA test that counts in the composite score. IIMB does not publish its format.
InterviewHow you explain your work, your goals and your fit for the programme.

IIMB says it seeks candidates who thrive in a rigorous academic environment, have strong communication skills, and have led teams and contributed to projects that impact the organisation's bottom line.

IIMB publishes no weights for these factors, and it may apply a minimum cut-off on the composite or on any single factor.

See how your file reads against these factors before you spend weeks on the application.

09 · Interview questions

What IIMB interviewers typically ask

Five questions that show the pattern, based on candidates' own accounts of their IIMB EPGP interviews. Nobody gets a fixed list, and many questions are follow-ups to your own answers. The tag says how likely that type of question is: high means it comes up in close to half of candidate accounts or more, medium in roughly a quarter to just under half, and low in fewer than a quarter.

TopicChanceHow it is usually asked
Technical and sector depth on your industryHIGH“Explain how a process in your industry works and why a company uses one method over another.”
Explain your role and how your business makes moneyHIGH“Explain what you do to someone with no background, and why your firm pays you what it does.”
Your statement of purpose and application, line by lineHIGH“Which sentence in your SOP would you change and why is it wrong?”
Why an MBA, and why IIM BangaloreMEDIUM“Why do you need an MBA now?”
Current affairs and policy opinionLOW“What is your view on a recent government scheme in your sector?”

We have a small number of accounts for IIMB EPGP, so treat the tags as directional.
